Dundee United Community Trust are delighted to announce an exciting new partnership with Abertay University which aims to significantly enhance the ability of DUCT, and other Sport for Development organisations, to understand and communicate more clearly the impact they have on the local community.

This innovative partnership creates a fully funded studentship for the next 3.5 years, with the key objective of co-constructing a more sociologically informed and meaningful version of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and to test it within the wider Sport for Development field.

The PhD student will be fully immersed in the work of the Community Trust during the period of the studentship.  There will be opportunities for partners, stakeholders and participants to get involved and help shape the development of this important research, the legacy of which has the potential to significantly improve how charities like DUCT demonstrate its impact.

Jamie Kirk, Chief Executive for DUCT, commented, “We’re really grateful to Abertay University for providing the funding and platform for this important research to take place.  We underlined a commitment to improving our M&E processes in our current strategic plan, and having the opportunity to host a PhD student for this project far surpasses what we originally aimed to achieve in this area.  We know the positive difference the work of our Organisation and many others like us makes, but to have it externally validated is an important next step for us.  To be able to play a part in developing a new method of measuring this impact for our sector is fantastic and we look forward to working with David and the supervisory team as well as the new student in this exciting project.”

David Scott, Lecturer in Sport Development at Abertay University, added, "This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual to contribute to an important area of work within community sport for development. Understanding the impact of the programmes DUCT provide is vital in being able to demonstrate the effectiveness of their work, but more importantly understanding how meaningful that impact is across different groups of people is crucial. This has the potential to be a cutting-edge piece of work which can be of benefit to the whole sector as well as DUCT. I'm grateful to Jamie and the team for trusting us to make this happen and I can't wait to get started with everyone involved."
