KICK OFF YOUR CAREER PARTICIPANT USES SKILLS LEARNED DURING THE PROJECT TO GAIN FULL TIME EMPLOYMENT.
John joined the Kick Off Your Career project at Tannadice Park, delivered by Dundee United Community Trust in partnership with the SPFL Trust and Jobcentre Plus, in August 2022 after struggling to understand what to do after leaving college a year earlier and being unable to find work during this time.
John commented, “Within two weeks [of starting Kick Off Your Career] I have already reflected on my skills and qualities that will help in employment as well achieving an Emergency First Aid qualification.”
John found out about Kick Off Your Career from their Work Coach at the Job Centre. The opportunity to gain key employability skills coupled with how easily accessible Tannadice Park was for them by public transport gave John the motivation to register for the six week programme with 100% attendance.
Lindsey Brown, Health & Wellbeing Co-ordinator for the Trust, was full of praise for John, “When John first arrived at the course, they were quieter than the rest in the group and it has been great to watch them grow socially and gain more confidence in team settings within a short amount of time. They originally had the goal of simply coming to all the sessions for the 6-week course but has gone beyond this with their great achievement of gaining full time employment. I wish John luck in the next part of their journey and have no doubt they'll do great.”
John also told us that the programme has given them a level of responsibility and improved their social confidence which helped them with the interview that led to them securing a full time job.
John added, “I would say the course is definitely worth attending and would advise anyone looking at it to come along. The staff are really friendly and I don’t have any negatives about my experience.”
John starts their new job on Monday 19 September and we’d like to wish them the very best of luck in their next venture.
