FOOTBALL THERAPY

Football Therapy is open to anyone aged 18+ that may be struggling with their mental health. We provide a safe, non-judgemental, and supportive environment where you can come and play football with likeminded people regardless of your footballing ability. Sessions are open to anyone with or without a mental health diagnosis.

Our Football Therapy group is also registered as a team with the Scottish FAโ€™s Mental Health & Wellbeing League. Our team travels to various venues throughout Scotland each month to face other clubs, such as Clyde, Greenock Morton, Partick Thistle, Queens Park, and St Johnstone. Whilst encouraged, it is not mandatory for players to take part in the Scottish FAโ€™s Mental Health & Wellbeing League.

Our sessions are suitable for โ€ฆ

โœ… Supporting those with lived experience of mental ill-health.

โœ… Tackling stigma associated with mental ill-health.

After being diagnosed with a brain tumour and receiving cancer treatment I struggled with anxiety. COVID then prevented me leaving the house as I was shielding.

Once things eased off, I started with Football Therapy. I was a little anxious to begin with however once I started being more involved with playing football, I believe it helped with my social confidence and gave me a sense of purpose.

It has helped me keep active and improve my physical health after being left with mobility problems from brain surgery.

It may only be a short time playing football weekly however the fresh air and social interaction is a massive help. Once you get back home you feel much more relaxed.

Football has always been a big part of my life and having Football Therapy to keep me motivated has helped with my independence.
