FESTIVE FRIENDS
For some, it’s the most wonderful time of the year. For others, it is the opposite, with few friends or family, loneliness bears down, and Christmas can feel like a dark time. And so Festive Friends, delivered in partnership with the SPFL Trust, is in many ways a simple concept, born out of an opportunity to create something special for those suffering the effects of isolation at a time of year when they need it most.
A tasty Christmas lunch either at Tannadice Park on Christmas Day or delivered to your doorstep, the means to get there, but more importantly the companionship and support often so desperately needed for elderly, vulnerable people. The reality is when you don’t eat well and spend far too much time on your own you risk your physical and mental health.
The Trust works with partners and local residents to identify vulnerable or isolated individuals or groups, or people living in poverty. Once identified, the Trust reaches out to make transport arrangements with that individual or group and understand their dietary requirements. On the day, more than 100 people come together at Tannadice Park for an afternoon of delicious food, socialising and fun games.
The Trust relies on the support of many people and partners, and you can support our Festive Friends efforts too by:
DONATING
We run fundraising campaigns in the build-up to Christmas and welcome donations of appropriate foods and gifts that can be given to beneficiaries.
FUNDRAISING
Take part in one of our fundraising campaigns to support the Trust and raise the necessary funds to ensure Festive Friends can take place. We have a dedicated team of Kiltwalk enthusiasts who take part each year - why not join them?
VOLUNTEERING
Festive Friends is only possible with the support of volunteers in packing and delivering the meals or supporting in person on Christmas Day.
